Most of the time when someone says a mech is bad it's because there is another mech that can do the build they are thinking of slightly better. Probably all mechs can be made serviceable with some thought put into the build and some practice.

Some folks like setting the Firebrand as a 'Boom-Jager' (Jagermech that has 2 AC20's) or a Gauss-Jager (dual-gauss rifles; great for sniping).
